Deezer announced a service clean-up in January 2024 and has actively started removing third-party noise content. This type of content will be replaced with Deezer-owned and/or controlled noise content. Identified noise content will no longer be included in the royalty calculation.
Noise Content is defined as sound recordings that are not primarily musical in nature. This includes content such as:
- Ambient noise
- Sound effects
- Background sounds
Several types of content are explicitly excluded from this definition. These exclusions are:
- Podcasts
- Audiobooks
- Spoken word
- Interviews
- Radio shows
- Comedy shows
- Instructional content
Deezer defines Longtail Content as content that has not been played by an end user in any rolling 12-month period. Deezer is permitted to delete and remove high-definition versions of Longtail Content from their service.
