Key Points to Note
-
Activating Splits
- Access to the Royalty Splits & Payments feature is on a client-by-client basis, please contact your business development representative to see if you are eligible for this feature.
- Once the feature is enabled, you can navigate to the catalog section of the FUGA user interface, select assets, and then pick an asset that you would like to assign a split to.
- This offering is being actively developed with new features being made available as part of a phased rollout.
-
Creating a Split
- To create a split, go to an asset’s details page, scroll down to the new royalties section, and begin assigning your splits.
- The label share is displayed at the top of the royalty share section and is automatically adjusted each time a new royalty share is added.
- For example, if you assign 80% of an asset’s royalty to a payee. Then your remaining label share will display 20%.
-
Creating a Payee
- To create a payee, select the ‘Add as new’ button when entering a payee’s name to add a royalty split.
- Then enter a unique easily recognizable name and email address.
- Then click ‘Create Payee’ and you will then be able to assign them a royalty percentage.
- Once a payee is created, they will receive an invite to a payee portal powered by Curve Royalty Systems to view their statements and data relating to the royalties they have earned.
- When assigning a split to an asset with a payee that has already been created, simply start typing in their name and the search will return a list of payees matching the name you have entered.
- Then enter the full number percentage you would like to assign to your payee and make sure to click save to ensure the royalty split is stored successfully.
- To create a payee, select the ‘Add as new’ button when entering a payee’s name to add a royalty split.
-
Managing Splits
- To edit a split, click the edit icon on a specific split to change the percentage amount and click save.
- To delete a split, hover your cursor over the split you would like to delete, then click on the trash can icon, and click confirm on the pop-up to delete the split.
-
Sales Data
- The split percentages assigned to an asset only apply to income received by FUGA for delivering & licensing your asset to digital streaming platforms (DSPs) on your behalf.
- Please keep in mind that Digital Service Providers usually report sales to FUGA on a monthly or quarterly cadence by providing sale report packages.
- This means that both your earnings and your payee’s royalties will only change once a month after statements have been created with the reported sales.
-
Splits Timeline
- Splits are calculated on the CSV statement you receive from FUGA Aggregation on the 15th of every month.
- Your payee statements will be generated and ready for review shortly after this date.
- You can decide when you want to publish your statements to your payees to ensure they align with your payout cycle.
- Splits assigned after the 15th of the month will apply to sales accounted for in the next statement period.
- If you spot a problem with your payee statements, then you can click on ‘report a problem’ and notify our accounting team of the discrepancy you have spotted.
- Sales begin to accrue against your catalog assets once the Royalty Splits & Payments feature is enabled.
- If the feature is enabled after the 15th of the month or your latest FUGA Aggregation statement is published, then it is the following month's statement that will be used for the next split calculations to your payees.
- When the first split is applied, even if it is six months later, then those six months of sales will get accounted for in the payee’s first statement run.
- Payees may see an initially larger-than-usual statement run due to these backdated royalties.
-
Payments
- The FUGA Royalties Splits & Payments feature will be further developed soon for a complete royalty workflow. Currently, it does not include facilitating the payouts of royalties to your payees.
- To streamline your payout operations, simply click on the menu on your payee statements row for the month you would like to payout and select ‘email period summary’.
- This Excel export will provide you with a list of your payees and the amounts they are owed for that month.
-
API
- Everything available via the FUGA user interface is available via the API which can be accessed here.
