This article explains how to use the courtesy line field in FUGA's product metadata to communicate ownership or rights-related messaging to supported Digital Service Providers (DSPs). The courtesy line is a display-only field that appears on platforms such as Spotify and offers greater flexibility than the standard copyright fields.
Overview of the Courtesy Line
The courtesy line is a non-mandatory metadata field that allows release owners to include a descriptive rights statement. Unlike the © (Copyright) and ℗ (Phonographic Copyright) lines, which follow formal formatting rules, the courtesy line can accommodate more customized language for display purposes.
Using the Courtesy Line
A dedicated text box for the courtesy line has been added to the Copyrights section of the product form.
This field is optional and can only be delivered to DSPs that support DDEX ERN 4.0 or higher. As of now, this includes:
Spotify
FUGA is actively upgrading delivery feeds to additional major DSPs to support courtesy line communication. Future compatibility will be announced as integrations are confirmed.
Display on DSPs
On Spotify, the courtesy line is displayed on the product page:
- Positioned below the Original Release Date
- Positioned above the © and ℗ lines
