Introduction
This article explains how to add publishing identifiers (ISWC, IPN, and IPI) in the FUGA Interface. These identifiers improve the accuracy of rights identification across the digital music supply chain, ensuring creators are properly credited and paid. FUGA’s support for these identifiers aligns with the UK Government’s Intellectual Property Office initiative to enhance transparency in music rights data.
Overview of Publishing Identifiers
ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code)
The ISWC is a unique identifier assigned to musical works. It enables correct mapping of compositions across digital, broadcast, and physical platforms, supporting licensing and royalty distribution.
Where to add in FUGA: You can add the ISWC to an audio, video, or classical Track. It is located in the Other section on the Track page.
Example format: T-123.456.789-Z
IPN (International Performer Number)
The IPN is a unique identifier for performers registered with a Collective Management Organization (CMO). It ensures accurate payment and accounting for performer royalties.
Where to add in FUGA: The IPN field is available on both the Artist and Person pages, under the Rights Identifiers section.
Example format: 12345678
IPI (Interested Party Identifier)
The IPI identifies individuals or organizations that hold rights or interests in a composition or recording. You should use the IPI Name-number, which typically consists of 6–11 digits. This ensures correct royalty attribution to all rights holders.
Where to add in FUGA: The IPI field appears in the Rights Identifiers section of the Person page only.
Example format: 12345678901
Step-by-step Instructions
- Log in to the FUGA Interface.
- Navigate to the entity type where you want to add a rights identifier:
- Track: go to the Other section.
- Artist or Person: go to the Rights Identifiers section.
- Locate the relevant field (ISWC, IPN, or IPI).
- Enter the identifier in the correct format.
- Click Save to confirm your changes.
Best Practices
- Always verify that the identifier matches the registered code issued by your Performing Rights Organization or CMO.
- Use the correct format (e.g., ISWC includes a leading “T-” and checksum letter).
- Keep identifiers consistent across related Tracks, Artists, and Persons to avoid mismatched metadata.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot find or enter a rights identifier:
- Ensure you have the appropriate permissions within your account.
- Confirm that the field is available for the entity type (IPI is only available on Person pages).
- If an identifier is not accepted, check for spacing, character, or formatting errors.
If issues persist, contact your FUGA representative or reach out via our support channel at support@fuga.com.
