This article explains the mandatory tagging and translation rules for Chinese-language metadata within the FUGA Interface. To ensure your content is processed correctly and appears accurately across regional Digital Service Providers (DSPs), specific rules for Traditional and Simplified scripts must be followed when using the Metadata Ingestion Self-Service Tool (MISS Tool) or manual entry.
Language Tagging Requirements
When setting up your metadata at both the Product and Track levels, you must distinguish between Traditional and Simplified scripts. These tags ensure that regional Digital Service Providers (DSPs) can correctly index and display your content according to local requirements.
Mandarin Chinese (Traditional): Select this value for metadata written in Traditional characters.
Mandarin Chinese (Simplified): Select this value for metadata written in Simplified characters.
Audio Language: Note that the Audio Language field currently only offers a general "Chinese" option. Specific script distinctions are only applicable to text-based metadata fields.
Mandatory Script Translations
Translations are generally optional and should only be filled out when deemed necessary by the artist or label. If a translation is not needed, the field should be left blank; DSPs will automatically display the primary metadata string (e.g., a Western artist name) by default.
However, a hard requirement exists regarding the relationship between Chinese scripts: if any metadata is provided in one Chinese script, its counterpart must also be provided.
If metadata is provided in Mandarin Chinese (Traditional), you must provide a Mandarin Chinese (Simplified) translation.
If metadata is provided in Mandarin Chinese (Simplified), you must provide a Mandarin Chinese (Traditional) translation.
This rule applies to the following fields:
Title
Version(s)
Artist Name(s)
Contributors (performer and production credits)
Publishers
Quality Control (QC) will flag the absence of a translation only if its Traditional or Simplified counterpart has been entered.
Formatting the MISS Tool for Chinese Metadata
When using the Metadata Ingestion Self-Service Tool (MISS Tool) for bulk uploads, translation columns must follow a specific "Field Name_ISO Code" format. If you are not providing translations for a specific field, you should omit that translation column entirely from your spreadsheet.
Example column headers for mandatory translations:
Album title_CMN_HANS (Simplified translation)
Artist name_CMN_HANS (Simplified translation)
Ensure that every field provided in Traditional Chinese has a corresponding column for Simplified Chinese, and vice versa.
Manual Entry in the FUGA Interface
For users entering metadata manually, dedicated Translations sections are available at multiple levels. These must be populated whenever the "counterpart rule" is triggered.
You can find these sections in the following locations:
Product Level: On the main product metadata page.
Asset Level: Within the individual asset metadata fields.
Artist Entity Page: For standardized artist name translations.
Person Entity Page: For contributor and composer credits.
The Publishers section is located on the asset level, directly below the Artists and Contributors sections.
