Introduction
This article explains the process and requirements for delivering music videos to iTunes via the FUGA Platform. It covers encoding procedures, asset preparation, and key eligibility guidelines.
Overview and Requirements
All music videos delivered to iTunes must be encoded by an iTunes-authorised encoding house. This is a mandatory requirement from iTunes (Apple Music). FUGA has streamlined this process to be as automated as possible.
The associated encoding costs are detailed in your agreement with FUGA. Contact your FUGA representative for further information if needed.
Before submitting your video for encoding, ensure that it complies with the iTunes Video Style Guide. Notably, iTunes does not accept:
- Videos with subtitles
- Lyric videos
Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in rejections during the encoding or delivery stages.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare your music video and verify that it meets iTunes' eligibility standards.
- Upload the video file to the relevant video asset in the FUGA Platform.
- Take a preview image (still from the video) with the following specifications:
- Minimum dimensions: 640x400 pixels
- Recommended dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels
- Aspect ratio: 16:9
- No black bars, logos, or text overlays
- Submit the video for iTunes encoding via the FUGA Platform.
- Upon submission, FUGA's authorised encoding house is notified automatically.
- Encoding is completed within a maximum of 72 hours.
- Once encoding is finished, you will receive an email notification.
- In the video asset, the iTunes encoding status will update to "encoding complete."
For detailed instructions on uploading video assets, see our guide on 'How Do I Upload a Video In the FUGA Interface?'.
Troubleshooting
- If the preview image does not meet the specified dimensions or includes disallowed elements (black bars, text, logos), the delivery to iTunes will fail.
- If encoding takes longer than 72 hours, contact your FUGA representative or reach out via our support channel.
- Ensure that the video content itself complies with iTunes' content restrictions to prevent rejections.
Related Notes
- The preview image must be an actual still from the video.
- Apple Music requires strict adherence to formatting and content standards.
- Always consult the most recent iTunes Video Style Guide before submitting your video.
