Introduction
This article explains how to configure YouTube Shorts Previews in the FUGA Interface. YouTube Shorts is a short-form video format that allows users to discover music clips up to 60 seconds long. By enabling Shorts previews, labels and rights holders can promote unreleased music ahead of its official release date through the YouTube Shorts Music Library.
Overview of YouTube Shorts Previews
YouTube Shorts Previews enable a short snippet of an upcoming release to be made available to creators in the YouTube Shorts Music Library before the official release date.
- A temporary preview asset is created and made available at the time and date you specify.
- On the full asset release date, YouTube automatically redirects all Shorts using the preview to the complete art track.
- The associated Shorts pivot page is also updated to reflect the full-length asset.
This feature enhances visibility and discovery potential for pre-release content, especially when paired with YouTube’s voice-command and recommendation systems.
Setting Up YouTube Shorts Previews via FUGA Aggregation
If you deliver to YouTube through FUGA Aggregation:
- Ensure the YouTube Shorts Preview feature is enabled for your account.
- Open the relevant Asset Page in the FUGA Interface.
- Scroll to the Playtime & Preview section.
- Click Configure YouTube Shorts Preview.
A modal window will appear where you can:
- Set the Start Date for the preview (must be before the release date).
- Set the Start Time with the option to release at local time across time zones or a single global time (UTC).
- Save your changes.
- Deliver your asset to the YouTube Music & Content ID combined feed or to both YouTube Music and YouTube Content ID individually.
Using Shorts Previews via a Direct Feed to YouTube
If you deliver to YouTube through a direct feed, you must first configure a YouTube Shorts preview policy.
- Log in to your YouTube Content Management System (CMS).
- Follow YouTube’s instructions for policy creation.
- Set the policy name to:
FUGA_SHORTS_PREVIEWS
Note: If the policy name is not correctly configured, the Shorts preview will not become available in the FUGA Interface.
Reference Match Settings
When enabling YouTube Shorts Previews, it is recommended to also set a Reference Match Amount. This defines the length of audio that can be identified in third-party videos:
- The match duration should not exceed the preview length.
- Setting a longer match may unintentionally allow User-Generated Content (UGC) to reference unreleased segments.
- This poses a risk, particularly if your track has been leaked before the official release.
Related Notes
- YouTube Shorts Previews are available only on the track (asset) level.
- The preview snippet does not replace the official art track release.
- Creator use of the preview snippet contributes to early promotional reach and metadata association.
