This article explains how to manage sound mapping on TikTok, specifically focusing on Partner Generated Content (PGC) and User-Generated Content (UGC) matching. You will learn about the behavior of attribution tags, how data is processed after a match is established, and the best practices for ensuring your music is correctly identified on TikTok to maximize visibility and revenue.
Delivering Audio Clips in the FUGA Interface
The process for delivering specific audio clips to TikTok depends on whether the release is a single-track product or a multiple-track product.
Single-track Products
Navigate to Catalog > Products > [Select Product] > Tracks > [Select Track] > Playtime & Preview section.
Set the Preview Start and Preview Length to your desired timestamp.
Within the Product Delivery Instructions, click the pencil icon next to TikTok and set the Release date to an earlier date to establish an exclusivity period.
Deliver the release specifically to TikTok.
Multiple-track Products
Duplicate the release to create a separate product intended only for TikTok.
Navigate to the Tracks level and then the Playtime & Preview section to set the Preview Start and Preview Length. Note that licensing terms require a minimum of 15 seconds and a maximum of 60 seconds when delivering via the Digital Distribution feed.
Use the Asset Release Date field in the Other section at the track level to set the specific tracks to go live on your preferred dates.
Clip Specifications
A default 1-minute clip is delivered via the Digital Distribution feed. Additional clips (between 15–60 seconds) can be generated upon request for releases delivered under FUGA’s Digital Distribution deal. To request this, provide the ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) and the specific timestamps to our support channel.
TikTok allows up to five official sounds per ISRC. It is recommended to define one or two 1-minute versions to determine which performs best (e.g., a version focused on the chorus versus one focused on a musical "drop").
Delivering via the TikTok Application
Artists may upload videos using an "Original Sound" directly within the application. When doing so, ensure the following:
Artist accounts should be configured as personal accounts.
Uploaded videos must not contain more than 1 minute of licensed audio; exceeding this limit will result in the video being blocked.
Manual Matching and Data Attribution
Manual matching links User-Generated Content (UGC) to your official delivered catalog. This process is initiated by contacting your FUGA representative or reaching out via our support channel.
It is important to note that data attribution and revenue associated with a manual match are not applied retroactively. Once a match is established, usage and data attribution apply to the video or sound clip from that point forward. Historical views, creations, or revenue generated before the match was finalized do not transfer to the Official Sound.
The "Contains" Tag and Visibility TikTok utilizes a "Contains" tag to attribute UGC to the correct rights holder. The visibility of this tag is subject to the following constraints:
Release Timing: The "Contains" tag is not visible to users until the song has reached its official Consumer Release Date and is live on the platform. Even if a match is confirmed in the backend prior to the release, the attribution remains hidden until the track is public.
Platform Availability: The "Contains" attribution is fully visible on the TikTok mobile application. This attribution is not currently supported on desktop browsers.
Troubleshooting and Mismatches
If you identify a UGC sound that is incorrectly mapped to one of your tracks (often called an incorrect "cover match"), you must resolve the mismatch to ensure accurate reporting.
To resolve these issues, contact your FUGA representative or reach out via our support channel. Provide the specific UGC link or ID along with the Official Sound information (such as ISRC or UPC (Universal Product Code)) that needs to be unlinked.
Understanding Link Behavior
Users may encounter different link types and landing pages depending on how they interact with a sound.
| Link Type | Description |
| Official Sound | The high-fidelity track delivered via the FUGA Platform (Partner Generated Content). |
| Original Sound | Audio uploaded directly by a user or artist via the application interface (User-Generated Content). |
| Original Sound with "Contains" | A hybrid page created once a match is confirmed. This link bridges the user's upload to the official catalog entry. |
The unique link for "Contains" sounds is generated because the system redirects the user from a piece of UGC to the official metadata of the claimed track.
Pre-Release Strategy and Ingestion Guidelines
To maximize the accuracy of automatic fingerprinting and reduce the need for manual intervention, follow these ingestion best practices:
Prioritize Early Delivery: Deliver your sound to the platform as early as possible via the standard Digital Distribution feed.
Fingerprinting Logic: TikTok matches content at the moment UGC is uploaded. Having your Official Sound in their system before users begin uploading clips ensures the highest match rate.
Submission Order: Always upload the Official Sound via the FUGA Interface first to ensure the fingerprint is active before the community begins using the audio.
Note: There is no official estimated timeline for the review of manual mapping requests. Requests are processed by the DSP (Digital Service Provider) as they are received.
