This article explains the expanded capabilities of the Metadata Ingestion Self-Service Tool (MISS) within the FUGA Interface. You will learn how to use spreadsheet ingestion to perform bulk updates on existing products in your Catalog, the specific requirements for overwriting metadata, and how to manage assets such as artwork and audio through the update process.
Overview of Updates
The Metadata Ingestion Self-Service Tool (MISS) now supports updates to existing products in addition to the ingestion of new content. Previously, including a product that already existed in the FUGA Interface would result in a "duplicate" error. The system now uses the Universal Product Code (UPC) to identify existing items. If a UPC in your spreadsheet matches an existing product in your Catalog, the system will process the row as an update rather than a new ingestion. This feature is currently available for Primary Accounts only.
Key Guidelines for Metadata Updates
Because the MISS tool allows for changes at scale, it is essential to treat the spreadsheet as the "source of truth." Any data provided in the spreadsheet will overwrite existing information in the FUGA Interface.
Complete Data Overwrite: When updating a product, the system replaces existing metadata with the values provided in the spreadsheet.
Full Metadata Requirements: To add, edit, or remove a field, you must provide the full desired metadata for that product. For example, if you wish to change a Track Title, you must still include all other mandatory fields (e.g., Artist Name, Genre) in the row, or the system may return an error.
Blank Fields: If a metadata field currently contains data in the FUGA Interface but is left blank in your spreadsheet, that data will be removed from the product upon processing.
Targeted Updates: To prevent accidental data loss, only include the specific products you intend to update within your spreadsheet.
Updating Assets and Track Structures
The logic for assets and product structures differs from standard metadata overwrites to ensure Catalog integrity.
Artwork, Audio, and Video Assets: Assets are only updated if the file is available on your SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) server, and for audio and video assets the corresponding filename is explicitly provided in the spreadsheet. If the asset filename field is left blank or the files are not present, the existing files within the FUGA Interface will remain unchanged. Note that assets remain a mandatory requirement for any new product ingestions.
Product Structure Limitations: The MISS tool cannot be used to modify the structure of an existing product. You cannot add or remove tracks from a product in the FUGA interface that has already been delivered.
New Structure Requirements: If you need to alter a product's structure, such as adding additional tracks, you must create a new product with a unique UPC.
Troubleshooting and Error Reporting
If a spreadsheet ingestion fails or encounters validation issues, the system will generate an error report.
Navigate to the Metadata Ingestion Self-Service Tool section within the FUGA Interface to monitor the status of your upload.
If an update is rejected, review the error log for specific details regarding missing mandatory fields or formatting issues.
Common errors include attempting to update a product from a Subaccount or providing a UPC that does not exist in your Catalog.
